Punong Guro Myrlino P. Hufana's
HUFANA TRADITIONAL ARNIS INTERNATIONAL

ARNIS, ESKRIMA and KALI are forms of the Filipino Combative Arts as taught by Punong Guro Myrlino P. Hufana, the Founder and Grandmaster.  The Academy offers regular training in the Filipino Martial Arts (FMA) lead by Punong Guro and several certified instructors.  FMA classes are separate from the Academy's Taekwondo program.  FMA training is not a mixed martial arts program.  FMA is a combative art, a complete system of self defense, and a stand alone fighting system.  FMA training, as taught by Punong Guro, is based on classical movements, concepts and philosophy of the Filipino Combative Arts.  Admittedly, there a few areas of training that have been modified in order to effectively adapt into today's fighting scenarios.

The strength of the Filipino Martial Arts is in its ability to conform and adapt into any combative and street fighting situation.  There are four major ranges taught in Punong Guro's style of FMA - Largo Mano (long range), Medio (mid range), Corto (close quarters), and Dumog (Filipino ground fighting).

The weapons utilized will depend on the range of combat.  The weaponry used in training will vary from the student's level of proficiency and training experience.  The basics will include rattan sticks of several lengths - long (36" - 40"), medium (26" - 28"), and short (20" - 24").  Training daggers of various styles and other traditional Filipino bladed weaponry will also be used in some areas of training.  Although the FMA's main arsenal are the weapons, Mano a Mano or empty hands, Pilipino Boksing and Sipa (kicks) are also used.

As a 13+ year student of PG Hufana, I am forever amazed at how the curriculum continues to grow.  The quality of the classes gets better and better and I am continually challenged.  When I think I have something down PG takes it to a whole new level.  It's an amazing journey.

Senior Guro Dave DeVore, Student & HTAI Instructor (Issaquah, WA)
Having been a student of Punong Guro Hufana for the past 13 years, I must admit that I have a biased opinion.  Not only do I consider him a mentor and a fantastic instructor, he is what I'd consider "the real deal" in regards to his combative FMA style.  PG Hufana is much more than this though.  He is also family and close friend.  PG  Hufana is open minded and does and does what he says, propagates the Filipino Martial Arts.  PG Hufana dreamed of creating a forum for Filipino Martial Artists to be exposed and to learn from many different Masters and Grandmasters of the FMA.  PG has created the World Filipino Martial Arts Association (www.WorldFMA.com) .  PG Hufana has surrounded himself and his students with many of the world's foremost instructors of the FMA.  His willingness to share his art as well as that of the other top instructors is refreshing and always exciting.  I have not missed one of his FMA Expos.

I have been a career law enforcement officer for the past 26 years.  Over that time I have taken many different styles of training (Karate, Aikido, Police Defensive Tactics and Submission Wrestling).  I found the Filipino Martial Arts to be job specific for me.  Many of the things I've learned over the years with PG Hufana have come to light in many altercations I've had on the streets that I patrol.  One of my main goals in training in the FMA is so I am able to go home to my family at night after my patrol shift ends.  Training with PG Hufana has kept me safe and able to do this year after year.

I was fortunate to accompany PG Hufana on his trips to the Philippines.  PG Hufana teaches not only the "art" but the customs, traditions, language, and etiquette of the Filipino people.  I was present when many of the Masters and Grandmasters congratulated PG Hufana on his students and their "combative ways" as well as their traditional mannerisms and the respect they show to everyone.  It made me very proud to be a part of the Hufana Traditional Arnis International TEAM.  Because of the positive influence PG Hufana has had on me and my family, I have enrolled both my sons in the Academy's Traditional Taekwondo program and they have both progressed in the past 3 years.  My sons are learning patience and respect in class.  PG Hufana, along with his kids (Michael & Lizelle), do a fantastic job of working with all different types of kids.  I am truly amazed at the patience and commitment they have to assist all the children in their classes.  This does not end with the Taekwondo classes either, they stress the importance of succeeding in all aspects of life.  Our family will continue to support and attend the Academy's training for many years to come.  Maraming Salamat Po PG! ("Thank you very much" in Tagalog)
